It's a good day to Dye!

I've been on a creative kick lately. It could be because school is out and I am not using my creativity in the classroom or I'm bored (or both). Most of my hand dyed yarns are dyed using the immersion method. I fill up a dye pot, throw the wool in and walk away for a bit (OK, it's a bit more involved than that). Until I decided to go crazy! If you have checked out my yarn before, you might notice that my color names have small stories behind them. Princess Em is for my oldest daughter who was one of those sparkly princess toddlers. Syd Squid is for my second daughter who loves the deep sea and was SO EXCITED to see a giant squid at the Mote Aquarium on vacation. CafĂ© au lait is a nod to my deep affection for coffee  and so on. Well, I have a new colorway to introduce, but first the story.

My dad (aka Grandpa) is a rather no fuss type of man. He likes to work with his hands. He loves to read. He likes the simple things in life. Sprinkles on ice cream are not simple. They get in the way of the ice cream. He'd prefer not to have them cluttering up his dessert. A few years back we were at Grandma L's house having ice cream on dad's birthday. Now Grandma L is not such a simple person. She likes color and lace and flowers and sprinkles on ice cream.

Of course you see where this is going, right?

My dad's ice cream was liberally sprinkled while Grandma L said "Here, have some sprinkles! It's your birthday" after dad had indicated he would prefer plain ice cream.

My sister and I have been laughing about this ever since.

Long enough for my teenage daughters to be in on the joke. Making Christmas cookies? Grandpa's gets extra sprinkles. Icing a cake? Not without sprinkles. He has even received packages of sprinkles as gifts. My poor father has eaten more sprinkles in the past few years than he cares to think about.

and so I present:

Grandpa LOVES sprinkles.

All skeined up and ready to go!
